When you'd trace a redirect

A redirect chain is too long

Each hop adds latency and dilutes link equity. More than 2 hops is worth fixing — trace the chain and collapse it to a direct redirect.

Old URLs after a site migration

After moving a site, verify that every old URL redirects correctly to its new equivalent. A 404 where a 301 should be loses the page's ranking history.

A URL is landing on the wrong page
